Where it works

  • Hospitals

Linen, meal and supply carts through service halls and elevators.

  • Laundries

Linen carts and bulk bins between the soil and clean sides.

  • Warehouses

Trains of carts along long aisles and out to the dock.

  • Plants

Parts carts, die carts and trailers between work cells.

Pick a tugger by three things. The total weight it moves, the floor and ramps on the route, and the doors and elevators it has to pass. Send us those and we confirm the model before you order.

Towing capacity

The compact models move 1,000 to 3,000 lb, and the heavy duty models 5,000 to 50,000 lb on a flat floor. Size the tugger against the full train, every cart plus its heaviest load. A ramp lowers what any tugger can pull, so give us the slope as well.

Compact, heavy duty or laundry

Compact tuggers suit linen, meal and supply carts in buildings with tight halls and small elevators. The Pony Express 1061 is 22 inches wide and the 1062 is 24 inches wide.

Heavy duty tuggers take parts carts, die carts and long trains in warehouses and plants. The Pony Express 1065 tows 5,000 lb from a 25 by 24 inch body, and the AC Tugger 25K+ tows 25,000 lb on casters. The laundry tuggers come with hitches for linen carts and bulk bins.

Batteries and charging

The AGM Pony Express models have an onboard charger that plugs into a standard 120 or 240 volt outlet, and they run up to 8 hours on a charge. Lithium models swap packs by hand, so a spare pack on the charger keeps the tugger working when one runs low. Ask us for the run time of a lithium model on your route.

Hitches

The tugger carries the hitch and each cart carries the matching coupler. Pintle, ball, ring, round bar, pin, strap and automatic coupling hitches are available. Tell us how your carts couple today and we match the hitch.

What to send for a quote

  • The weight of the heaviest loaded cart and how many carts you tow at once
  • The steepest ramp on the route and the floor surface
  • Door widths and the elevator car size, if the route has one
  • Your delivery ZIP code

Drawings or photos of your carts help. We check the route against them and send a written quote with the machine, options, freight and build time.

Questions

Can a tugger handle ramps?

The 1061, 1061-HD, 1062, 1065 and 1065-XHD are rated for inclines up to 30 degrees with a reduced load. Tell us the slope and the full weight and we confirm the right model before you order.

Will it fit our elevators and halls?

The 1061 and 1061-HD are 22 inches wide and their length adjusts from 22 to 42 inches. The 1062, 1065 and 1065-XHD bodies are 25 by 24 inches. The AC Tugger 25K+ is 52 by 30 inches. Send us your elevator size and cart length and we check that the tugger and cart fit together.

Do you have ride on tuggers?

Yes. The RiderCaddy is a ride on tug that pulls up to 10,000 lb on long routes. Most models here are walk-behind.

What is a tugger?

A tugger is a battery powered machine that tows or pushes wheeled carts and trailers so nobody moves them by hand. It does not lift the load. Most models here are walk behind, and the RiderCaddy is a ride on tug for long routes.

How much can an electric tugger tow?

The compact models tow 1,000 to 3,000 lb and the heavy duty models 5,000 to 50,000 lb on a flat floor. Size the tugger against the whole train, every cart plus its heaviest load, and tell us the steepest ramp on the route.

How much does an electric tugger cost?

Every tugger is priced on a written quote that lists the machine, the hitches, options, freight and build time. Send the cart weights, the route and your ZIP code and we send it back.

How do I get a price?

Call us or send the form. Tell us what you move, the route and your ZIP. We send a written quote with the machine, freight and build time.

How does it arrive?

Most machines go by freight truck from the factory. Parts and smaller items can go by FedEx or UPS. Freight to your ZIP is on your quote before you order. Rush and overnight shipping cost extra. We sell and ship to US addresses only.

What warranty comes with it?

EK Tech covers Pony Express tuggers for 2 years on the frame and drive and 1 year on other parts. For DJ Products and Autoquip equipment, ask us.
