Summary
Every electric tugger we sell is quoted in writing. This guide covers what goes into the quote and what changes the price.
On this page
The price of an electric tugger depends on how much it tows, the battery it runs on, the hitches and options you add, and freight to your site. We quote every machine in writing. The quote lists the machine, the options, freight and the build time, so the number covers the tugger your route needs.
This guide walks through each part of the quote and what moves it.
What a quote includes
- The tugger model and its battery
- The hitches for your carts
- Options such as a larger battery pack or a louder horn
- Spare battery packs and a charging station for lithium models, if you want them
- Freight to your delivery ZIP code
- The build time
Towing capacity
Towing capacity is the first thing that sets the price. The heavier models carry a larger battery, and the top model uses a larger drive. The 1062 runs a 35 Ah AGM battery for 2,000 lb. The 1065 steps up to a 70 Ah AGM battery for 5,000 lb in the same 25 by 24 inch body. The AC Tugger 25K+ uses a 48 volt AC transaxle and tows 25,000 lb on casters.
The Pony Express line runs in these steps on casters on a flat floor.
- 1,500 lb with the 1061 and 1061 Lithium
- 2,000 lb with the 1061-HD, 1061-HD Lithium, 1062 and 1062-LS
- 5,000 lb with the 1065, 1065 Lithium and 1065-LS
- 7,500 lb with the 1065-XHD
- 25,000 lb with the AC Tugger 25K+ and AC Tugger 25K+ Lithium
Our CartCaddy tugs cover other ratings, from the CartCaddyLite for carts up to 1,000 lb to the CartCaddyHD ChainDrive for carts and equipment up to 50,000 lb. They are quoted the same way.
Buy the step that clears your heaviest loaded train with room to spare. A ramp lowers what any tugger can pull, so a route with a slope may need the next step up. Send us the slope and the full weight and we confirm the model before you order.
Speed is not a price factor. Every Pony Express tugger tops out at 3 mph, because the operator walks with the load.
Weighing the train and reading the ratings is how to choose a tugger by load capacity.
Battery type
The battery changes the price within the same capacity. It does not change how much the tugger pulls.
The 1061-HD and the 1061-HD Lithium both tow 2,000 lb and are both 22 inches wide. The AGM model has a 35 Ah battery and an onboard charger. It runs up to 8 hours and recharges in about 4 hours. The lithium model has a 40 Ah lithium iron phosphate pack that swaps in seconds and recharges in about 2 hours on an external charger. A Bluetooth app shows its charge on a phone.
The same choice runs up the line. The 1065 Lithium tows the same 5,000 lb as the AGM 1065 and recharges in about 90 minutes. The AC Tugger 25K+ comes with a 100 Ah AGM or a 120 Ah lithium iron phosphate pack, chosen at order time.
For a lithium fleet, plan the spare packs and the charger in the same quote. On the 1065 Lithium, extra packs and the charging station are sold separately. The number of packs sets how many shifts one tugger can cover.
Hitches and options
The hitch connects the tugger to your carts, so it is part of every quote. The 1061-HD comes with lockable adjustable hitch hooks. The 1065 Lithium connects by draw bar, ring coupler or ball hitch. The laundry models take hitches for linen carts and bulk bins, and the 1065-LS has an optional bin-to-bin hitch for moving several bins at once.
Other options change the price too. The 1062 takes an optional 70 Ah AGM battery package for longer shifts. The 1062, 1065 and 1065-XHD offer a 115 dB horn for loud floors. If your carts need a custom coupling, send us photos and dimensions and we price it with the tugger.
Freight
Freight is part of your quote. It depends on the shipping weight and your delivery ZIP code. A 1062 ships at 350 lb, a 1065-XHD at 800 lb and an AC Tugger 25K+ at 1,800 lb. Tell us if the site has a loading dock so we can plan the delivery.
Build time
Build time depends on the model and the options, and it is written on your quote. Ask us when you need the tugger on site and we tell you whether the build fits that date.
Running costs
An AGM tugger charges from a standard 120 or 240 volt outlet with its onboard charger, so there is no fuel to buy or store. The drive wheels are puncture proof and do not go flat. A lithium model needs its external charger and any spare packs you plan to rotate.
What to send for a quote
- The weight of the heaviest loaded cart and how many carts you tow at once
- The steepest ramp on the route and the floor surface
- Door widths and the elevator car size, if the route has one
- How many shifts the tugger runs each day
- Your delivery ZIP code
Drawings or photos of the carts help. We check the route against them and send a written quote.
Questions
What changes the price of an electric tugger most?
Towing capacity comes first, then the battery type. Hitches, options, spare packs and freight make up the rest of the quote.
Does a lithium tugger pull more than an AGM tugger?
No. The 1061-HD and the 1061-HD Lithium both tow 2,000 lb. The lithium model changes how long the tugger can keep working, with a pack that swaps in seconds and a faster recharge.
Is freight included in the quote?
Yes. Freight to your delivery ZIP code is part of the written quote.
Does a faster tugger cost more?
Speed does not change the price. Every Pony Express tugger tops out at 3 mph.

Does Your Facility Need a Walk-Behind or Ride-On Electric Tugger?
Most cart work in hospitals, laundries and warehouses fits a walk-behind tugger. A ride-on tug such as the RiderCaddy makes sense when one operator would otherwise walk long routes all shift.
