Overview
A 90 degree upender, also called a flip-flop upender, turns heavy, bulky or odd-shaped loads from horizontal to vertical or back at a controlled speed. Plants use it for coil and die handling, engine block work, coil reorientation and palletizing.
Double-acting hydraulic cylinders do the work, with the power unit inside or outside the base frame. The footprint is about the size of its two decks together, so plan floor space for both wings.
There are 96 standard models that handle 2,000 to 60,000 lb. The platform tilts 90 degrees. Lowered height is 10.5 to 21 in. Platform widths are 24 to 144 in and lengths are 36 to 144 in. Each model has its own row and model number in the table on this page.
What comes standard
- Double-acting cylinders with counterbalance valves that control the descent
- Manual override valves to lower a partly tilted load after a power loss
- Controls prewired and the drive on board. It is lagged to the floor and connected to power
- Chrome-plated 100,000 psi pins and solid steel linkages
- Steel-reinforced platform at least 1/4 inch thick
Questions
How much floor space does an upender need?
About the area of its two decks side by side, because the load moves from one deck to the other as it turns. Each model's deck sizes are in the table on this page.
How do we pick the right model?
Start with the heaviest load and its footprint. Pick a model whose capacity covers the load and whose platform fits it, then the tilt angle that brings the far side of the container within reach. Each model has its own row and model number on this page.
What do we send for a quote?
The model number from the table, or the load weight and size and the heights you need. Add the power at the site and your delivery ZIP code. We confirm the model and send a written quote.
How fast does it tilt?
The speed depends on the model, the load and the power unit. The maker does not list it for the standard models, so ask us for the time on the model you need.
How do I get a price?
Call us or send the form. Tell us what you move, the route and your ZIP. We send a written quote with the machine, freight and build time.
How does it arrive?
Most machines go by freight truck from the factory. Parts and smaller items can go by FedEx or UPS. Freight to your ZIP is on your quote before you order. Rush and overnight shipping cost extra. We sell and ship to US addresses only.
