Buying guide
Pick a mailroom or utility cart by what it carries, the halls and elevators it has to fit, the ramps on the route and how far it goes each day.
What it carries
The Pony Express 1031-SM01 mailroom cart has two wire baskets that hold up to 100 hanging file folders over a lower deck rated for 1,500 lb. The MPCS double deck carts carry 1,500 lb on a 25.5 inch wide deck with a second shelf about 35.5 inches off the floor.
The 1033 records cart is built to your shelving, the ToolCaddy carries 300 lb of tools on two trays and the Powered Cart carries 1,000 lb on a bed and shelves built to order.
Halls, doors and elevators
The MPCS double deck cart comes with a 40, 49 or 61 inch deck. Choose the shortest one that holds your load, because a shorter cart turns in less space and fits a smaller elevator. Center wheel drive on the Pony Express carts turns tight through doorways.
Ramps and thresholds
The 1031-SM01 and the 1033 are rated for 6 degree inclines, and their spring suspension keeps the drive wheel on the floor over thresholds and elevator gaps. The carts stop and hold when the operator lets go.
Battery and range
The double deck carts run up to 10 miles per charge, the 1033 runs 10 to 15 miles and the 1031-SM01 about 8 hours. The chargers are on board and plug into a 120 or 240 volt outlet.
What to send for a quote
- What the cart carries and its heaviest load
- Door widths and the elevator car size
- Any ramps or thresholds on the route
- How many rounds the cart runs each day
We check the route against what you send and come back with a written quote for the cart, options, freight and build time.
Questions
Can we stop other staff using the cart?
Yes. The Pony Express carts use a keyed power switch, and the 1033 offers key or keyless on and off control, so the cart runs only for the people you choose.
Can the cart go outside between buildings?
The 1031-SM01 has a water resistant cover option and the 1033 a vinyl cover option for routes that go outdoors. Tell us about the route and we confirm the setup.
Can a cart be built around our shelving?
Yes. The 1033 is built to your size and shelf count, and the industrial utility cart is built to order for loads of 2,000 lb and up with the shelf shaped to your load.
What happens if the operator lets go?
The cart comes to a controlled stop and the holding brake keeps it parked, even on a slope.
How do I get a price?
Call us or send the form. Tell us what you move, the route and your ZIP. We send a written quote with the machine, freight and build time.
How does it arrive?
Most machines go by freight truck from the factory. Parts and smaller items can go by FedEx or UPS. Freight to your ZIP is on your quote before you order. Rush and overnight shipping cost extra. We sell and ship to US addresses only.
What warranty comes with it?
EK Tech covers Pony Express tuggers for 2 years on the frame and drive and 1 year on other parts. For DJ Products and Autoquip equipment, ask us.
