Where it works

  • Mezzanines

Stock moved between the floor and a storage mezzanine.

  • Plants

Parts fed between levels of a production line.

  • Distribution

    Cartons sent between conveyor levels.

  • Multi-level buildings

    Freight carried between floors.

Choose a VRC by the travel, the load and how it loads at each level. Send us those and we confirm the model.

Hydraulic or mechanical

Hydraulic VRCs travel 141 to 360 in in their standard models and suit runs between two levels such as a floor and a mezzanine. Mechanical VRCs use a gear motor and chain, stop at several programmed levels, and have been custom built to about 100 feet of travel. Hydraulic models re-pressurize on their own to keep the carriage level with the upper landing during long idle periods.

Carriage style

A cantilever carriage hangs off two guide posts, needs no overhead structure and loads from three sides. A straddle carriage sits between the posts for longer loads and through loading. The 4 post VRC lifts at four points for the heaviest loads, with open sides. QuickStack is a modular VRC that bolts together for 2, 3 or 4 levels.

Capacity and carriage size

Standard models carry 500 lb on the package lift up to 20,000 lb on the 4 post VRC. The FreightLite carries 1,500 to 3,000 lb for lighter pallets, most often to a mezzanine. Carriages run from 36 to 144 in wide and 36 to 180 in long.

Gates and safety

Mechanical VRCs carry load jam sensors with a key switch reset, slack chain sensors and an over-travel switch. The package lift and QuickStack add interlocked landing gates that stay locked while the carriage moves. The package lift has spring-loaded brakes that stop the carriage if its cable breaks, and QuickStack has free-fall arrest devices.

Questions

Can people ride a VRC?

No. A VRC is a conveyor for materials only. If an operator has to ride with the load, ask us about the carousel work platform, which is built to carry a person.

Does a VRC need a pit?

Not always. Standard carriages lower to 3.25 to 6.25 in, and QuickStack offers an approach ramp or a pit threshold at the lower level. Tell us about the floor at the lowest landing.

Can the carriage be enclosed?

QuickStack offers enclosed carriages and carriage gates in place of snap chains. For other models, ask us with the load and the landing layout.

What is a vertical reciprocating conveyor?

A VRC is a freight lift for materials only. It carries pallets, carts and cartons between a floor and a mezzanine or several levels. Standard models carry 500 to 20,000 lb with 96 to 360 in of travel.

Hydraulic or mechanical VRC?

Hydraulic VRCs travel 141 to 360 in and suit two levels such as a floor and a mezzanine. Mechanical VRCs use a gear motor and chain, stop at several programmed levels, and have been custom built to about 100 feet of travel.
